Chejelipes

A picture-postcard hamlet in La Gomera

The countryside around Chejelipe in the east of La Gomera is shaped by its three reservoirs; three oases surrounded by fertile crops and delightful palm groves. The small houses that form this little village close to the island capital, sit on the slopes of the La Villa ravine and create an image that’s hard to equal. With just under 50 inhabitants, this isolated corner, though easy to get to, is a peaceful haven.

Take in La Gomera’s landscape from its lookout points

The rugged terrain has often meant the use of forklifts to bring essential items to the village residents. The walls of the weirs can be crossed and from here you can catch incredible views of Chejelipes, making them particularly special viewing points to capture a memory in your mind or with a camera. You mustn’t leave without trying the barbecued rabbit served in the area.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
  • Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
  • Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
  • Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
  • Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
  • Respect and look after the area's historic and cultural heritage, along with the different items of public furniture (information panels, railings, seats, lighting, etc.).
