Climate in La Gomera

Body

Days in the Canary Islands are long and sunny with comfortable temperatures and few variations. La Gomera is a clear example of the Canary Islands climate, with a few unique qualities.

The island’s climate is warm and mild, with few changes, which makes it a good place to visit in any season. Given its intricate orography, La Gomera has several sub-climates, with the north of the island tending to be a bit cooler and more humid, while the south is sunnier and warmer.

In addition, the trade winds have a strong effect on the northern side of the island, where we find Garajonay National Park. The height of the mountains here means that water vapour from precipitation condenses into mist, creating ideal conditions for the ancient forests.

The sun is an important presence on the islands. It influences the climate, everyday life and the way people are. And it has also been proven to have numerous properties: it is a source of vitamin D, it strengthens the bones, improves the mood, impacts sleep quality…

There are, however, certain precautions you should take when you are sunbathing:

  • Always use suitable sunscreen for your skin phototype.
  • Renew your sunscreen every 2 hours and when you come out of the water.
  • Avoid sunbathing between noon and 4 pm.
  • Be vigilant about how much sun children are subject to and protect them properly.
  • If you are going to spend several hours on the beach, don’t forget to take a sunshade.
