Playa de Santiago

Perfect for diving

Bathed by calm seas is one of the largest beaches on La Gomera. Playa de Santiago is in Alajeró, in the south of the island, next to the fishing port and marina. Due to its many caves and the amazing variety to be seen on the seabed here, it is perfect for diving. The crystal-clear water affords great visibility for viewing the underwater scenery and the different species that inhabit this area of the coast and fascinate fans of sea life. A range of diving, snorkelling and kayak excursions are available at Playa de Santiago.

Truly relaxing days

Playa de Santiago is in a pleasant, little, coastal village. It is invigorating to take a walk along its seafront promenade, enjoy wonderful sunsets on one of its many terraces and taste some of the delicious local gastronomy. As it is one of the largest tourist resorts on La Gomera, you can do some window-shopping as you stroll past the many shops, made even more appealing by the pleasant Canary Islands climate at any time of year. The “chiringuitos” (beach bars) are also perfect for having a snack by the sea. This visit promises you a few days of true relaxation.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats.
- Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants from the environment.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Do not use soap or gel in the showers located at the entrance to the beach.
- Try to use ocean- friendly sun creams.
- Pets are prohibited at most beaches. Make sure you can take them beforehand.
- Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.) or activities that might be bothersome, such as ball games.
