Majona Cycling Route, the Hidden Island

La Gomera

Routes 2.1 Majona round‑trip and 2.2 Majona‑Hermigua

Discover the Majona Route, a bicycle journey through one of La Gomera’s most wild and authentic corners. This ride takes you into the Majona Natural Park, a rugged and almost untouched landscape, where time seems to have stood still and nature preserves the legacy of ancient livestock‑farming traditions. Cycle through deep ravines, dirt trails, and changing forests — from coastal scrublands and palm groves to the lush laurel forests in the wetter areas. At every turn, the scenery surprises with unique panoramas and a total sense of adventure. The route demands preparation and caution, with steep sections and isolated areas without coverage, but those who dare will be rewarded with an unforgettable experience that culminates in the charming Hermigua Valley. Ideal for mountain bikers and nature lovers seeking an authentic connection with the island.

Route

The Majona Route starts in Las Casetas (Km 7 on the GM‑1) and offers two options: a shorter version that returns to the starting point avoiding the most dangerous section at La Campana, and a full version that reaches Hermigua, crossing unique landscapes. The journey takes us along ancient herding paths and traditional hamlets such as Enchereda and El Helechal, now almost abandoned, where examples of rustic architecture and historic agricultural terraces still remain. As we progress, the route amazes with a diversity of landscapes: cloud forest connected to Garajonay, reforested pine woods, palm groves, vineyards and juniper groves which draw a unique environment. From the viewpoint at La Campana you can enjoy the spectacle of a sea of clouds, while in the lower parts you’ll see vestiges of vineyards and small hamlets like El Palmar and La Soga. On the slopes of Enchereda we find the historic Bodega Montoro, guardian of the native Forastera Gomera grape variety. The route culminates with views over the Hermigua Valley and the option to detour toward La Caleta, a beach with a recreation area, viewpoint and paragliding spot, before finishing in the picturesque district of Las Nuevitas. A bike trip that combines history, tradition and nature, ideal for adventure cycling enthusiasts.
