Valle Gran Rey Rural Park

Beautiful views of ravines, palm trees and farming terraces

Valle Gran Rey Rural Park, with its deep ravines dotted with palm trees, is located in the south-west of La Gomera, in the borough that shares its name. Its springs, steep cliffs and small hamlets are just some of the secrets hidden in this protected natural space. The hamlets are located on the ravine slopes of Valle Gran Rey and Argaga, where you’ll discover a curious man-made landscape, the stepped farming terraces which contrast quite dramatically with the natural wilderness that surrounds them.

Get to know the natural habitat of La Gomera’s giant lizard

The giant lizard of La Gomera, in danger of extinction, is just one of the many natural inhabitants of Valle Gran Rey Rural Park. It lives alongside other species endemic to the island, particularly birds, who make their nests in the palm groves of Valle Gran Rey. The park has a number of trails and pathways that cross through it, which give visitors the chance to discover the beauty and peace of these natural spots.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
  • Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
  • Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
  • Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
  • Do not walk in areas where it is not allowed and respect the signposting along trails. Leaving the set paths causes damage to the environment and could also be dangerous for you and anyone with you.
  • Do not light fires outside the permitted areas and be especially careful during the summer months.
  • Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.).
