Whale and dolphin watching Puerto de Vueltas

Excursion to see whales and dolphins in the wild

From the port of Vueltas, the southern waters of the island of La Gomera offer fantastic opportunities to sight whales and dolphins swimming in the wild. Large sea mammals frequently pass through this maritime area, including Atlantic spotted dolphins, common dolphins and bottle nose dolphins, as well as sperm whales, Bryde’s whales and other types of whales. There is a reason why the Canary Islands have become one of the most attractive European venues for people hoping to observe whales and dolphins in the wild.

The beauty of animal nature in the wild

Boats set off from the same port, on short sea trips organised by specialist companies, to observe the wonderful spectacle of these animals in the wild. They in turn are drawn by the rich sea bed and excellent temperature of the water. The boats that come close to them bear the “Barco Azul” (blue boat) emblem, which ensures observance of the regulations that guarantee a full, happy life for the cetaceans.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
  • Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
  • Use the waste- paper baskets and, insofar as possible, separate and place your recycling waste in the appropriate containers.
  • Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
  • Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
  • Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
  • In natural spaces and at viewpoints, do not leave the trail or the spaces designated for people to be in.
  • Respect and look after the area's historic and cultural heritage, along with the public furniture and items for visitors, such as information panels or telescopes and binoculars.
